Rx Safe and Green Sweep

Law enforcement agencies throughout Chippewa County are encouraging residents to take advantage of a prescription drug disposal initiative called Rx Safe and Green Sweep. This year’s specific event will take place on Saturday April 25th between 8:00am and 12:00pm at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds in Chippewa Falls as part of the Chippewa County Household Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep.

This program is designed to provide households with a means of disposing old and unused pharmaceutical drugs in an environmentally safe manner.  By doing so, we reduce the chance of someone stealing or misusing medication while at the same time providing an environmentally friendly way to get rid of old prescription medications.

To participate, simply bring your old and unused medications to the Rx Safe and Green Sweep area.  Law enforcement will collect the medications and prepare them for the disposal process.  You can leave the medication in the original container as even the medication containers can be recycled.  There is no fee for the disposal of any medications and confidentiality will be ensured as you will not be asked for any form of identification. Persons may bring any type of prescription medications and unused “sharps”.

If you have any questions about the Rx Safe and Green Sweep, please call the Chippewa Falls Police Department or contact the Chippewa County Recycling Coordinator at (715) 726-7999.
