Police Join Forces with Chippewa Herald

The Chippewa Falls Police Department has teamed up with the Chippewa Herald in an effort to track down a few of the area’s “most wanted” persons.  This idea was first proposed by staff of the newspaper as a feature that could be added to their on-line news source, chippewa.com.  Realizing that the joint venture could benefit both agencies, the police department has joined together with the Chippewa Herald in creating the “Chippewa’s Most Wanted” link on the newspaper’s website.  The webpage can be accessed by going to the paper’s www.chippewa.com website.  There, viewers can select the “Chippewa’s Most Wanted” link and see pictures and information of persons from the area who are wanted or have warrants for their arrest.  The Police Department provides the photos and identification information on one or two persons currently wanted on warrants and who are still believed to be in the area but have managed to avoid apprehension.   The Chippewa Herald then publishes that information on their website, thus enlisting the eyes and the ears of the public to help in locating the wanted persons.  Many of these persons posted at “Chippewa’s Most Wanted” likely have contact with the public on a daily basis, but the public would otherwise have no idea there was a wanted person in their midst.  The Chippewa Herald recognizes this is as an opportunity to share this type of news with the public and actually promote interaction with its readers/viewers.

The Police Department ensures that the wanted person information provided is current and accurate by verifying the wanted status of the posted persons on a daily basis.  The department liaisons to the Chippewa Herald also have the ability to delete and/or add names to the webpage 24 hours a day, further insuring that the information is up to date and accurate.

Citizens that have information are asked to call the Police Department’s business line at 715-723-4424 for 24 hour-a-day immediate service.  Callers can remain anonymous.  They can also call the Police Department’s Tipster line at 715-720-6944, but that line is not monitored continuously and a delay in the dissemination of the information could result.   Citizen’s can also email information to the department at policedept@chippewafalls-wi.gov, but this method could also delay timely action on any information provided.
